Bridging Experience and Aspiration: 'Insight and Inspire from Abroad' Seminar Empowers Lao Youth

On March 15, 2025, Dāna Education Laos proudly hosted the Insight and Inspire from Abroad seminar at the American Center Vientiane. This impactful gathering brought together five Lao JENESYS alumni and one Burmese JENESYS alumnus as guest speakers to share their international experiences, inspire young minds, and foster meaningful dialogue about future opportunities.

With 24 participants in attendance, the event aimed to connect aspiring change-makers in Laos with those who have walked a path of international exchange, learning, and leadership. From 13:30 to 16:30, the seminar was filled with energy, curiosity, and an exchange of valuable insights that left both participants and speakers feeling enriched.

A Journey of Shared Experience and Purpose

The event opened with an introduction to Dāna Education Laos, outlining our mission to empower youth through education, mentorship, and global exposure. Our work emphasizes not only academic and professional development but also fostering the values of empathy, service, and community building.

Following the opening, our guest alumni took the stage to share their unique journeys through the JENESYS (Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths) program. Each story highlighted different facets of growth—cultural exchange, academic exploration, personal challenges, and the motivation to give back to their communities after returning home.

The Burmese JENESYS alumnus offered a particularly compelling cross-cultural perspective, emphasizing how international experiences can inspire collective progress beyond borders. His reflections resonated deeply with the audience, underscoring the idea that while our countries may differ, our dreams for youth empowerment and social development are shared.

Dialogue, Connection, and Inspiration

A vibrant panel discussion followed the alumni talks, moderated by Dāna Education Laos team members. Participants raised thoughtful questions about navigating opportunities abroad, overcoming cultural and language barriers, and translating those experiences into meaningful local impact. The panelists responded with honesty and encouragement, offering both practical advice and heartfelt motivation.

To deepen the connections and allow for more intimate conversation, we concluded with small-group talking sessions where participants could interact directly with the alumni. These informal discussions gave space for personal storytelling, mentorship, and inspiration—planting seeds for future collaborations and individual growth.

The feedback we received from participants was overwhelmingly positive. One of the comments on our evaluation forms captured the spirit of the day perfectly:

This sense of warmth, support, and well-organized teamwork reflected everything we hope to achieve through our work at Dāna Education Laos. It was more than an event—it was a shared experience of encouragement and empowerment.

The success of Insight and Inspire from Abroad has reaffirmed our belief in the power of storytelling, mentorship, and community. We are excited to continue building on this momentum by organizing more workshops, educational events, and social activities.
